Beginners Beekeeping Workshops!!

If you have been thinking about keeping bees but still have not jumped in this will be a calm, relaxed and fun experience outdoors to get a feel for beekeeping as a hobby and hopefully fall in love with it. This will be a great way to see if Beekeeping is for you.

Workshops are held Saturday mornings and will cover the basics with hands on experience using both Langstroth and Top bar hives.

Time 9am – 12:30pm
Dunsborough
Morning tea provided
Class cost $70 per head
Protective veil available for those who need.

I will cover a range of beginner basics such as:

Why you should keep bees
Where you should keep bees
Will look at and discuss what equipment is required to keep bees .
How to work with bees naturally, organically and with respect
How to behave around a beehive.
How to avoid being stung!
Watching the bees at the hive entrance and discussing their activity.
Using a bee smoker properly
Inspecting inside a hive for the Queen, worker bees(females), drones(males) eggs, larvae, pupae, pollen, honey and any disease.
Discuss the different roles of the bees in the colony and watch them working.
Discuss the management of a hive through the different seasons and what is required.
What time commitment is required.

What to expect in your first year beekeeping.
What are your physical abilities as honey supers can get very heavy!
Discuss different hive types that may suit your individual needs and preferences.

This will be a great way to build up your confidence helping you to become a great beekeeper!
